Office 365 Exposed, Episode 19: Here Comes the New Book!

This episode marks a happy occasion: the upcoming release of the 2021 version of Office 365 for IT Pros

editor’s note: we are running a sale. Buy the 2020 edition now, get the 2021 edition for free!

Tony, Vasil, and I talk about the book creation process, why the book’s a subscription instead of a single-priced purchase, how the sausage is made, and why tech editing is so important. We close out the episode by choosing our “favorite” recent O365 feature– you may be surprised to hear our choices.

Episode 19, all about the 2021 book!

Office 365 Exposed, Episode 18: Live from Microsoft Teams

Tony and I had grand ambitions of recording a podcast but, uh, things have been a little busy, what with all the lockdown, working-under-quarantine, and so on. We did something a little different this time– we recorded this episode in a Teams meeting with guests in attendance. See if you can spot the difference!

(programming note: we originally recorded a section planned on the coming death of Basic Authentication in Exchange Online. As Microsoft has pushed this date back until sometime in the happy future, we took that segment out since most of it was us expressing certainty that Microsoft wouldn’t push the date back.)

Office 365 Exposed, Episode 17: Live from Ignite 2019

Tony and I are back again, this time from steamy Orlando. Recorded in the Podcast Center at Microsoft Ignite 2019, this episode features special guests from Microsoft: Mark Kashman, grand poobah of SharePoint, and Ross Smith IV, mobility ninja. Listen in to hear about Project Cortex, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, and a few other goodies.

Office 365 Exposed, Episode 16

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year: Ignite Season!

See the source image

In this episode, Tony and I are joined by Anna Chu from Microsoft; she has some pretty interesting answers to the questions we asked her about Microsoft Ignite, including why there’s an increased focus on developers and what she thinks the biggest change from years past is. Along the way, we also talk about the spreading evil of self-service license purchases and make a few predictions about things you might see from the show floor at Ignite.

Office 365 Exposed, episode 16

Good news– we’ll be recording an episode from Ignite this year, so plan to tune in week after next for more Ignite-y goodness.

Office 365 Exposed, Episode 15

Just a little palate cleanser this time before Microsoft Inspire gets started! Tony, Vasil, and I talk about Teams security, the Search-Mailbox cmdlet’s journey to Death Row, and whether or not emoji reactions in email are a tool of the devil.

Office 365 Exposed, Episode 14

It’s MVP Summit week, and you know what that means: another episode! This time, Tony and I were joined by Greg Taylor and Brent Alinger from Microsoft. We discussed a rash of topics, including the impending death end of support for Exchange 2010, new announcements from the Microsoft Teams team at Enterprise Connect, and a rather surprising fact about SharePoint retention and your document library. Share and enjoy!

(editor’s note: this podcast was the first one where we experimented with audio postproduction so do let us know if the sound quality is better or worse than usual!)

Office 365 Exposed, episode 13

Join me and co-hosts Tony Redmond and Vasil Michev as we talk about all manner of things, including the new Outlook web app, Microsoft’s checkered history with transport rules for security, various SharePoint topics, and the pungent cloud of FUD emanating from certain Office 365 ecosystem vendors.

Office 365 Exposed, episode 12:

As per tradition, Tony Redmond and I got together at Microsoft Ignite 2018 in Orlando to record a new episode of “Office 365 Exposed” podcast. The Ignite organizers make studios available for this purpose, which is most appreciated. We were joined by special guest and noted humorist Greg Taylor, recently-appointed Microsoft Director of Marketing for Exchange and Exchange Online, to discuss the conference, some announcements made at the event, what Exchange 2019 means for on-premises customers, and what’s happening with Microsoft 365. It’s an easy 45-minute listen.

Office 365 Exposed, episode 11: Spectre, Meltdown, and the O365 Admin

This episode was recorded at the Continental Hotel in Budapest, where Tony and I were joined by Office 365 MVPs Alan Byrne and Vasil Michev. We explore the wonders of the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerability and learn how it affects– or doesn’t affect– Exchange and Office 365 administrators– and we finally have a name for our “point/counterpoint” segment. Tune in to find out what it is.

Office 365 Exposed, Episode 10

Tony and I decided to do a special holiday edition of the podcast to celebrate a banner 2017. In 2018, we have some big things planned– but until then, enjoy this episode where you can learn what our favorite new Office 365 features were, hear Tony fulminate about the Teams PowerShell extension, and find out whether we actually believe that Teams will kill off email (spoiler: nope.)

Office 365 Exposed, episode 9

I just got back from Microsoft Ignite, where I stayed locked in a restaurant with customers for almost the entire time. Thankfully, I was able to escape long enough to sit down with Tony Redmond and Microsoft’s Christophe Fiessinger to talk about Office 365, Groups, Ignite, and a bunch of other stuff… in front of a live studio audience. That means that, when you hear people laughing, it’s not scripted for once. Enjoy!

Office 365 Exposed, episode 08

Back by popular demand: Office 365 Exposed! In this episode, Tony and I recap the (excellent) Office 365 Engage conference, discuss some various change management “issues” (I use the term politely; “problems” would be more accurate) with Office 365, touch on the recent horrifying data breach in the reporting portal, and opine on what to expect at Microsoft Ignite coming up next month.

Listener note: Tony and I will be recording an episode at the Ignite Podcast Center– if you have questions or topics you’d like to see us address, let us know!

Office 365 Exposed, episode 7

In this episode, Tony and I welcome special guest and Office 365 MVP Alan Byrne, who comes off the top rope on Microsoft and their Office 365 reporting APIs. We discuss something Citibank has that you don’t, wonder where some promised Office 365 features have gone, and tell bad jokes. Actually, I don’t think there are any jokes in this episode at all– probably worth listening to it just for that.

Office 365 Exposed episode 6, from Las Vegas

Fresh on the episode we did at Microsoft Ignite this year, Tony and I thought it would be fun to do another short episode while we’re both in Vegas for IT/DevConnections… so we did. Topics include a spiffy new profanity filter (for Office 365 Groups, not Tony and me), the triumphant debut of Focused Inbox on desktop Outlook, and a touching closing segment where Tony mourns the loss of a favored gadget.

Office 365 Exposed, episode 5

I hear you now: “Wait! You and Tony record new episodes quarterly! In California! Why are you posting a new episode already?”

Because Microsoft Ignite, that’s why! We were able to steal away to the very nicely equipped Podcast Center at Ignite to talk about some of the big announcements, rumors, and news around Office 365. (Thanks to Julian for the audio production btw.) Hear about changes to Office 365 groups, a new name for a controversial features, and what Atlanta has given the world.
