Simulating user loads on Exchange 2007

A good question over on the Exchange 2007 TechNet forums: where is the Exchange 2007 version of loadsim? The answer is simple: you can’t have it yet 🙂 There is a new Exchange 2007 version of loadsim, codenamed “Swordfish”. The comments here say that Swordfish will ship about the same time as Exchange 2007. However, you’re not out of luck in the meantime.

Josh Maher has a post on his blog that explains how to set up a reasonable test environment using Loadsim 2003 against Exchange 2007. Note that you must use the Web Release 2.3 version of Loadsim. Note that I haven’t seen any live results with this approach, so I’m not 100% sure that they’ll map closely to what you’d get running Swordfish. In the meantime, though, they should give you a way to start doing preliminary performance investigations.
